Evo ultimate Hatch Pins
One pair of our new ultimate Hatch Pins, as supplied in the Evo Hardware Pack. They weigh less than half a gram the pair. Very secure and having minuscule parasitic drag . Simple, but effective and a convenient nominal 90mm each. Both are 2mm diameter flexible, round section, plastic bendy 'rods' used for holding the Evo hatch door in place.
Simply and easily slide the pins right through the Spine Piece flutes on one side and through the hatch door into the fixed flutes beyond. The pins bend to accommodate the natural wing curvature, retaining the battery, Rx, ESC etc. effectively and with complete security. Extract using a fingernail behind the flattened end. We place them at about one third and two thirds of the way along the hatch opening. Natural coloured to blend with your white laser cut Evo. Easily dropped (especially on grass) but visible. However we mark a lightly roughened end in bright red using a Permanent Marker pen. The other end we slightly round off with sandpaper to slip easily into the flutes. If gripping the red end is tricky, eg when wearing gloves, then the red end can be enlarged a little. Warm on the sole plate of a domestic steam iron on 'Cotton' setting. Use those useful little recessed curved areas. As the material softens, gently push on the shaft with a finger and thumb. Let about a half mm of translucent ring form, gently rotating to form a slight, flattened 'dum-dum' shape. Blow to cool and set. The hatch pin 'rim' you have formed is then easily gripped and can't be inserted too far into the flute. Finish off with the red permanent marker treatment. Switch off the iron! Leave until stone cold. Pick off any minute traces of harmless plastic residue with your fingernail. When fiddling around in the Evo hatch we store the pins temporarily by poking into the surrounding flutes. Fairly tough in use, the semi flexible pins will take reasonable abuse or careless handling.
